The short answer

Last updated July 2026

An AI test maker builds the test for you instead of asking you to type it. VidQuiz reads the video your test is supposed to cover, a lecture, a training module, a recorded course, and writes multiple choice questions with a complete answer key and an explanation for each item. You review and edit the draft, then export it as a printable PDF, a CSV, a Google Forms ready file, or QTI XML for your LMS.

Most test writing time is not spent thinking about assessment. It is spent retyping. You know the material, you know roughly what should be on the test, and then you spend two hours turning that into stems, options, an answer key, and a document that prints without breaking across pages.

VidQuiz collapses that into a review pass. Point it at the video the test is meant to cover and it produces a full draft: questions drawn from the actual content, four options each, the correct answer marked, a short explanation, and a timestamp back to where the point was made. What arrives is a test you edit, not a blank page you fill.

It is built for people who test on recorded content: instructors with lecture capture, L and D teams with a compliance module and a completion requirement, course creators who need an end of module check that proves someone watched and understood. The answer key comes filled in, and the export drops into the system you already grade in.

Can AI generate a test with an answer key?

Yes, and the answer key is the part that saves the most time. VidQuiz marks the correct option as it writes each question and attaches a one line explanation of why that option is right, so the key is finished the moment the draft is. Exporting to PDF gives you the test, and the key travels with the quiz rather than living in a separate document you have to keep in sync.

The caution worth stating plainly: an AI generated test is a draft written from your video, not a validated instrument. It has not been piloted, its difficulty has not been calibrated, and it can misjudge which point mattered. Read it before it counts for a grade.

Is it fair to give students a test written by AI?

It is fair if a human approves it, and unfair if nobody reads it. The questions come from the material you taught, which is the actual fairness test, and every question is editable before anyone sees it. What makes a test unfair is not who drafted it, it is testing something that was never covered, phrasing a stem ambiguously, or writing distractors that trick rather than discriminate. Those are all review problems, and review is your step.

The practical rule most instructors land on: use the generator for the first draft and for coverage, and use your judgment for weighting, difficulty, and anything that decides a grade.

How long does it take to make a test from a lecture?

Generating the draft takes seconds. Reviewing it takes as long as reading the questions, usually a few minutes for a twenty item test. Compared with writing the same test by hand, which realistically runs one to three hours once you count rewatching the recording and building the answer key, the saving is most of an afternoon per test.

The bigger compounding win is at course scale. A ten module course needs ten end of module checks, and that is the point where hand writing tests quietly stops happening and modules ship without assessment at all.

What kinds of video can it build a test from?

Anything with spoken content. Recorded lectures and lecture capture, corporate training and compliance modules, recorded webinars, online course videos, conference talks, screen recordings and software walkthroughs, and direct MP4 files. If the knowledge is in the audio, it can be turned into questions.

Good questions

Questions about ai test maker

Yes. Every question has its correct option marked and a one line explanation of why it is right, written at the same time as the question. The key is included in the PDF, CSV, and LMS exports, so there is no separate document to maintain.
You can, provided you review it first. Treat the output as a strong draft: check that the questions cover what you taught, adjust difficulty, and cut anything ambiguous. For graded exams, export QTI to your LMS so scores are recorded properly.
VidQuiz is multiple choice first, because MCQs grade automatically and work in every LMS, Google Forms, and on paper. Each item comes with four options, a marked answer, and an explanation.
Yes. Longer videos give it more to work from, and questions are spread across the whole recording rather than clustered at the start, which is a common weakness when someone writes questions while watching.
