Can you export Edpuzzle questions to Canvas?

Not as a quiz file. Edpuzzle connects to Canvas as an app: you add it in the course settings with a consumer key and shared secret, assign a lesson as an external tool, and students answer inside the Edpuzzle player. A grade from 0 to 100 flows back to the Canvas gradebook, and open-ended answers count as 0 until you grade them.

The questions never become Canvas quiz items. They cannot go into an item bank, be randomized into a Canvas quiz or be reused without Edpuzzle. Edpuzzle help pages describe grade export and the LTI integration, but not a QTI export of the questions.

VidQuiz writes a QTI 1.2 zip on any paid plan. Canvas reads it through Import Course Content for Classic Quizzes and through Import Content in New Quizzes and item banks, and Brightspace reads the same package in its Question Library.

How much does Edpuzzle cost?

Edpuzzle Basic costs nothing and keeps 20 activities. Pro Teacher is $15 a month, or $13.75 a month billed annually, which is $165 a year, and it removes the activity cap and includes 120 Supported Assignments a year. Raising that to 250 costs $19.25 a month more on annual plans only. Pro School is quoted per school.

Two buying rules matter. Edpuzzle accepts purchase orders for schools and districts but not for Pro Teacher, so a teacher pays by card. And from November 1, 2026 Edpuzzle adds US sales tax to Pro Teacher charges where a state taxes digital subscriptions, with no way to apply a school tax exemption to a personal plan.

VidQuiz costs more and does a different job: $49 a month on Starter, or $288 for a year. It is worth paying for only when the output has to be an LMS quiz file. The Edpuzzle pricing breakdown linked below goes through every plan in detail.

Is there a free alternative to Edpuzzle?

H5P Interactive Video is the usual answer for teachers whose LMS already has H5P installed, because it embeds questions in a video at no extra cost. It needs an administrator to enable it and more setup per lesson than Edpuzzle. Edpuzzle Basic is itself free for 20 activities, which covers a teacher who reuses a small set of lessons.

VidQuiz is a paid tool with a one-time free demo of 3 quizzes. It is not trying to be a free Edpuzzle; it is for the teacher whose time goes into writing and retyping questions, not into hosting video.

Does Edpuzzle work with Moodle and Blackboard?

Yes, as an integration. In Moodle an administrator configures Edpuzzle as an external tool with deep linking and grade return, and teachers add it as an activity. Blackboard works through the same kind of LMS integration. In both cases students open the Edpuzzle lesson from the course and the grade comes back.

What neither integration gives you is the questions as native items. VidQuiz exports a GIFT file that goes into the Moodle question bank through Import and a tab-delimited file that goes into Blackboard through Upload Questions in Ultra or Original. Neither needs a plugin or an administrator.

Is Edpuzzle Pro worth it for a teacher who only needs quizzes?

Usually not. The value in Edpuzzle Pro Teacher is unlimited interactive lessons, Supported Assignments with insights and anti-cheating, and the player itself. A teacher who only wants a graded quiz from a video pays for a player and still writes every question by hand or checks every AI draft in the timeline.

If interactive video lessons are most of what you assign, Edpuzzle Pro Teacher at $165 a year is fair value. If the quiz in the LMS is the whole job, compare that against a tool that writes the questions and the file together.
