A Camtasia quiz generator writes the questions for you so you are not typing every item into the Camtasia quiz editor by hand. Camtasia handles the interactive part: you press Shift+Q to drop a quiz on the timeline, and it supports multiple choice, true/false, fill in the blank, and short answer. What it does not do is write the questions. Paste or upload the recording into VidQuiz and it returns multiple choice questions with the correct answer marked, a short explanation, and a timestamp showing where on the timeline each one belongs. Two things are worth knowing before you build: a plain MP4 export drops the quiz entirely, and TechSmith has retired its Results Service, so a SCORM package in an LMS is now the only path that reports Camtasia quiz scores.

Camtasia is a good place for a quiz to live and a slow place to write one. The editor gives you an interactive player, a timeline you can drop questions onto, and four question types to pick from. Then it hands you a blank question box and leaves the actual authoring to you: watch the recording back, decide what is worth testing, write the stem, invent three wrong answers that are not obviously wrong, mark the key, and repeat. A thirty minute training capture usually needs eight to twelve questions, and that is an afternoon.

VidQuiz takes the writing off your plate and leaves the Camtasia part to Camtasia. Upload the recording or paste a link, and it reads the spoken content and drafts multiple choice questions with the correct answer marked, a one line explanation, and a timestamp back to the moment each question tests. Those timestamps are the useful bit here, because they tell you exactly where on the Camtasia timeline each quiz marker belongs. TechSmith has retired the Results Service and the online quiz editor. Quizzes already embedded in videos hosted on Screencast still play, but TechSmith no longer scores them, tracks view progress, or sends the nightly reports. Honest limit on our side: VidQuiz does not produce SCORM packages.

How do you add a quiz in Camtasia?

Move the playhead to the point where you want the quiz, then choose Modify, Quizzes, Add Timeline Quiz, or just press Shift+Q. Camtasia adds the quiz marker and switches the Properties panel into quiz mode, where you type each question, add its options, and mark the correct answer. You can attach several questions to one quiz and place more than one quiz across a single video, with a cap of thirty answer options on any single question.

The mechanics take a minute to learn. The cost is everything that happens inside that question box. Drafting the items from the recording first means the Camtasia step becomes paste, place, save, and you spend your judgment on whether a question is fair rather than on inventing distractors at 4pm.

Why is my Camtasia quiz not showing?

Almost always because of how the video was exported. Camtasia quizzes need the TechSmith Smart Player to run, and a plain MP4 export does not include it. On Windows you have to export with the MP4 with Smart Player option; on Mac you export to MP4 and tick Include Quiz in the export dialog. Sharing to Screencast or producing a SCORM package also keeps the quiz. Upload that same video to YouTube and the quiz is gone, because YouTube plays the file in its own player and interactive elements do not survive the trip.

The same rule catches people who embed the video on a website: the Smart Player files have to travel with it. If the quiz has to work anywhere a browser works, without a special player, a share link is the simpler answer. A generated quiz opens as its own page, so there is no player dependency, no export preset to remember, and nothing to break when someone reposts the video.

How do Camtasia quiz results get reported?

Through SCORM, into a learning management system. That is the remaining path. You export with Report Using SCORM enabled, set a passing score and a required viewing percentage, and upload the package to your LMS. Viewer responses and raw scores go to the LMS, including short answer and fill in the blank text and the selected option index for multiple choice. TechSmith has retired the Results Service and its online quiz editor, so quizzes outside an LMS no longer get scored, tracked, or reported by TechSmith at all.

That is a real gap if you are not running an LMS, and it is worth knowing before you spend a day building in-video quizzes that quietly collect nothing. VidQuiz does not make SCORM packages, so if SCORM is a hard requirement, Camtasia stays in your workflow. If what you actually need is a scored quiz with results you can see, send a VidQuiz share link, or export a QTI package that imports into Canvas, Blackboard, or Brightspace as a native quiz with per question grading.

Can you generate Camtasia quiz questions automatically?

Camtasia will not write them, but you can generate them from the same recording and bring them in. Export or locate the MP4, upload it to VidQuiz or paste a link if the video is already hosted, and you get a full multiple choice set drawn from what was said, in seconds. Each question carries the correct answer, a one line explanation, and a timestamp, which is what makes the handoff work: the timestamp tells you which point on the Camtasia timeline to drop that question onto.

Review before anything ships. The questions come from your own recording and they are a strong first draft, not a guarantee, so read them once and fix anything that misreads a point you made. What disappears is the typing, which is the reason most screen recordings and training captures never get a quiz at all.
