Pear Deck costs $0 on Teacher Free and $149 a year on Teacher Premium, the price Pear Deck lists with its educator discount. Schools and districts get a quote. The pricing page shows no monthly price and does not print the undiscounted figure. Compared with Nearpod, Pear Deck Premium is $10 a year cheaper than Nearpod Gold at $159, and its free plan has no participant cap where Nearpod Silver stops at 40 students in one lesson.

Those figures come from the live Pear Deck Learning pricing page and the Pear Deck help documentation, read in October 2026. Pear Deck now sits inside a family of four products (Pear Start, Pear Deck, Pear Practice and Pear Assessment), and the pricing page prices each one separately, which is where most of the confusion starts.

A lesson being recorded on camera, the kind of video teachers turn into a graded quiz

Spread over twelve months, Premium works out to about $12.42 a month. That is our arithmetic, not a plan Pear Deck sells: there is no month-by-month price on the page.

Is Pear Deck free for teachers?

Yes. Pear Deck Teacher Free costs nothing and is generous where it matters most: unlimited presentations, interactive questions, sessions and participants. You get Text, Number and Poll slides, the Content Orchard of templates and ready-to-teach lessons, student-paced mode, locks and timers, anonymous projection of answers, Immersive Reader and Flashcard Factory on Google accounts.

What Free does not give you is the Teacher Dashboard with student names next to their answers, the custom Drawing and Draggable slides, Reflect and Review after the session, and written Teacher Feedback. For many teachers the dashboard is the reason to pay, because on Free the responses on screen are anonymous.

How much does Pear Deck Premium cost?

Pear Deck lists Teacher Premium at $149 a year, with an asterisk that reads "with educator discount." The page does not say what the price is without the discount, and it shows no monthly option. Premium is attached to the email address you bought it with, so a teacher with a personal and a school Google account has to sign in with the right one or the account shows Free.

Premium adds:

  • The Teacher Dashboard, where you see, highlight and hide responses by student name.
  • Custom Drawing and Draggable slides, and auto-scoring with acceptable answers on Number slides.
  • Reflect and Review, which shares slides, responses and feedback with students after the session ends.
  • Teacher Feedback, Quick Prompts, audio on slides and the Shared Teacher Dashboard for co-teachers.

Switching back to Free cancels Premium, and you keep every deck you made, including custom Drawing and Draggable slides you already built. You just cannot create new ones.

What does a Pear Deck school license add?

The Schools and Districts plan is quoted, so there is no list price to compare. On the pricing page it adds Premium for every teacher and student, the District Library for sharing decks across schools, certified math and ELA lessons for grades 3 to 12, efficacy reports, custom professional development and onboarding support.

Two details are easy to miss. The scored Choice slide, the only Pear Deck question type with a correct answer and a point value, is a school and district feature. The ordinary Poll slide, which used to be called Multiple Choice, has no right answer at all. And the Canvas and Schoology integration is included with a district subscription but carries a separate fee on a school subscription.

Does Pear Deck work with Canvas?

On a school or district plan, yes. The Canvas integration turns a Pear Deck session into a Canvas assignment, so students open it without a join code. According to Pear Deck's own help article, you then assign points in the Canvas Gradebook by hand, and the integration is not connected to SpeedGrader. On Teacher Free or Premium there is no Canvas integration.

The questions stay in your slide deck either way. After a session, Pear Deck exports Text, Multiple Choice and Number responses to a Google Sheet if you signed in with Google. Drawing answers do not export and Draggable answers export as coordinates. The help documentation describes no export of the questions themselves as a QTI package, so they cannot go into a Canvas item bank without retyping. If the graded quiz has to live in Canvas, importing questions into Canvas needs a QTI zip, and that is a different tool's job.

Pear Deck vs Nearpod pricing

Nearpod and Pear Deck are the two names teachers compare most often, and on price they are close. The difference is in what the free plan caps and what each one is built around.

The Nearpod figures come from our Nearpod pricing breakdown, checked first-party the same week. If you already teach from slide decks and want questions inside them, Pear Deck is the cheaper and less disruptive choice. If you want a library of ready lessons and interactive videos, Nearpod Gold buys more content for $10 more.

How much does Pear Assessment cost?

Pear Assessment, the product formerly called Edulastic, has its own plans: Teacher Free at $0, Teacher Premium at $125 a year with the educator discount, and a quoted district or school plan. Premium adds advanced test security, more accessibility tools, a state-test style interface, rubric scoring and standards-based reports.

One line on that pricing table is worth reading twice if your lessons are videos. "Create video-based quizzes," turning a YouTube video into an interactive quiz, is not in Teacher Free and is marked as an add-on on both Teacher Premium and the school plan. Pear Assessment can also build a test from an imported PDF, Word file, image or Google Form. If your source is a slide deck rather than a video, you can turn the slides themselves into a quiz and skip the retyping.

VidQuiz costs more than Pear Deck Premium and does nothing in a live classroom: no slides, no join codes, no drawing. What it does is write multiple choice questions from a YouTube link, mark the correct answer, put a timestamp on each question and export a quiz file your LMS imports and grades itself. The Pear Deck alternative comparison puts the two side by side, including the rows Pear Deck wins. The Edpuzzle figure comes from our Edpuzzle pricing breakdown.

How to choose without overpaying

  • Try Free for a full unit first. Pear Deck Teacher Free has no participant cap, so class size alone is never a reason to upgrade.
  • Pay for Premium if you need names on answers. The Teacher Dashboard is the main thing $149 buys. If anonymous responses on the projector are enough, stay on Free.
  • Do not buy Premium for Canvas. The Canvas and Schoology integration is a school and district feature. An individual Premium license does not include it.
  • Ask about a district plan if several teachers already pay. It adds the scored Choice slide, the LMS integration and Premium for everyone.
  • Start from where the grade has to live. If a graded test belongs in a Canvas, Moodle or Blackboard question bank, a YouTube video to quiz workflow that exports QTI, GIFT or a Blackboard file does that part, and Pear Deck can keep running the lesson.
