Three quizzes VidQuiz generated from three real YouTube videos. They are saved output, not generated in your browser. Pick one to answer it, and open the source video to check the questions against what is actually said in it.
For your own video, the live demo on the home page runs the real generator once, free, with no account.
This box only holds saved quizzes.
It has not sent your link anywhere. The live demo on the home page does run it: one real generation, free, no account and no card, on the same engine paying customers use.
For a nurse educator, the best AI nursing question generator is the one that starts from the material you already teach from and ends in the system you already grade in. That rules most of the category out, because most of it is built for students studying their own notes. Of the tools that serve faculty, NursingEdAI is the strongest for slide decks and Word documents at $25 a month with unlimited generation and an ExamSoft export. VidQuiz is the one to pick when your teaching lives in recorded lectures and skills videos and the questions need to land in Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard or Moodle, from $49 a month for 40 quizzes.
Every price below was read on the vendor's own page on 22 September 2026. What follows is what each tool actually does, the item types none of the cheap ones handle well, and the one question that settles a faculty shortlist in about a minute.
What is the best AI nursing question generator for educators?
Start from the input, not the feature list. A generator can only write from what you feed it, and faculty material comes in three shapes: slide decks and documents, recorded lectures and demonstrations, and a licensed item bank from a testing vendor. Each shape has a different best tool, and a program usually needs two of them rather than one.
| Tool | Built for | Starts from | Gets questions out as | Published price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NursingEdAI | Nursing faculty | Slides, PDF, Word, text, learning objectives | DOCX, PDF, ExamSoft format, HTML | $25 a month, $75 a semester, $200 a year, unlimited generations |
| VidQuiz | Faculty and clinical educators | A YouTube link, or a pasted transcript of any recording | QTI 1.2 for Canvas and Brightspace, Blackboard tab delimited, Moodle GIFT, Google Forms CSV, CSV, PDF | $49 a month for 40 quizzes, $99 for 150, $199 for 600 |
| MyQuizGPT | Students, tutors, some instructors | Notes, PDFs and prompts, inside ChatGPT | Quiz links, flashcards, Google Forms sync | $27 lifetime or $3.99 a week |
| NurseQuizAI | Nursing students | Notes, PDF, Word, slides | In app practice; no export stated on its homepage | Free for a limited time, 10 quizzes a day |
| ATI Custom Assessment Builder | Programs that license ATI | ATI content with its Claire AI assistant | Inside the ATI platform | Sold to programs, no public price |
Read the table by the third column first. If your course is built on PowerPoint, NursingEdAI is the natural fit and it does not pretend to be anything else. If your course is built on recordings, a lecture capture library or a set of skills demonstrations, a document tool has nothing to read, and that is where VidQuiz earns its place. If the program already pays ATI for high stakes testing, its builder is already on the invoice and belongs on the shortlist for anything that feeds a proctored exam.
Can AI write NCLEX style questions?
AI writes the classic NCLEX style single best answer item well enough to use as a draft, and it writes the Next Generation formats far less reliably. Published comparisons of ChatGPT written and educator written items in nursing programs found the AI drafts rated close on quality once faculty refined them, and weaker on higher order and multiple response items. That is the same line every tool in the table draws, whether or not it says so.
Be specific about which items you are buying. The Next Generation NCLEX went live on 1 April 2023 and added bow tie, matrix, cloze, drag and drop and unfolding case study items built on the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model. VidQuiz does not write any of those, nor Select All That Apply, and says so on its nursing quiz generator page. The student tools advertise SATA and prioritization items, which is a real advantage for self study, but check any claimed NGN case study against the model before it goes near a graded exam.
Which AI question generator works from lecture videos?
Of the five, only VidQuiz starts from the recording. Paste the YouTube link to a lecture or skills demo, public or unlisted, and it drafts multiple choice items with the key marked, a written rationale and a timestamp back to the moment each item came from. For a recording that lives in Panopto, Kaltura, Canvas Studio or a hospital learning system, you download the transcript those platforms already produce and paste it in, up to 60,000 characters. VidQuiz has no speech to text of its own, so the transcript is the part it needs.
The timestamp is the feature faculty end up valuing most. Checking a generated key against the source normally means scrubbing through an hour of video. With a timestamp on every item, it is a thirty second job, and a student who misses a question can be pointed at the exact ninety seconds of the demonstration that answers it. The walkthrough for a full class session is on the lecture video to quiz page.
How much does an AI nursing question generator cost?
For an individual faculty member, the document based tools run $16 to $25 a month. NursingEdAI is $25 monthly, $75 a semester or $200 a year, all unlimited. VidQuiz is $49 a month for 40 quizzes, $99 for 150 and $199 for 600, and paying yearly halves the price, so $288, $588 or $1,188. MyQuizGPT sells a $27 lifetime pass aimed at students. Institutional platforms such as ATI are sold under program contracts with no public figure.
The two faculty tools meter differently, and the difference matters more than the headline price. NursingEdAI counts nothing: generate as much as you like from documents. VidQuiz counts quizzes, and counts nothing about students, so a quiz taken by a cohort of 120 costs exactly what one taken by 12 costs. A faculty member drafting one quiz per recorded lecture across a 15 week course sits comfortably inside the 40 quiz plan.
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| NursingEdAI Monthly | $25 | n/a | Unlimited generations from documents |
| NursingEdAI Annual | n/a | $200 | Unlimited generations from documents |
| VidQuiz Starter | $49 | $288 | 40 quizzes a month, videos up to 60 minutes |
| VidQuiz Creator | $99 | $588 | 150 quizzes a month, videos up to 120 minutes |
| VidQuiz Team | $199 | $1,188 | 600 quizzes a month, videos up to 120 minutes |
How do I get AI generated questions into Canvas or Blackboard?
Through a file your LMS imports natively, and this is where the tools separate most sharply. A DOCX or PDF is a document a person reads, not a quiz object, so questions delivered that way are retyped or pasted into the LMS one at a time. An ExamSoft export is exactly right if your program tests in ExamSoft. For weekly quizzes that live in the course shell, you want a question bank import.
VidQuiz exports a QTI 1.2 package that Canvas and Brightspace read, the tab delimited upload file Blackboard reads, and a GIFT file for Moodle. Import into a question bank rather than straight into one exam, so the same items can be pulled into several quizzes across the semester. The QTI converter page covers which version each LMS wants and where each import screen sits.
Is it safe to use AI to write nursing exam questions?
It is safe when a qualified nurse educator reviews every item before it counts toward a grade, and no tool in this category removes that step. A generated item can carry an outdated lab range, a dose your program teaches differently, or two defensible answers. Check dosing and interaction content against your adopted textbook, and where a medication item turns on an interaction or a renal adjustment, confirm it in a clinical decision support reference before the key is locked.
Keep patient data out of it entirely. Recordings should use simulated patients, case details should be de-identified, and nothing that counts as protected health information belongs in a transcript you paste into any AI tool. And keep the LMS question bank, not the generator, as the record of what was tested, so an item can be reviewed or challenged later from the place the grade lives.
Which one should a nursing program buy?
Most programs end up with two tools, not one. The testing vendor covers high stakes, proctored and NGN formatted exams. A faculty generator covers the weekly quizzes, unit checks and in-service post tests that the testing vendor was never set up to produce. For that second job, the choice is almost entirely about your source material: slide decks point to NursingEdAI, recordings point to VidQuiz.
If your recordings are on YouTube, the fastest test is to paste one link into the tool above and read the draft it writes. The free demo covers three quizzes, once, which is enough to judge the rationales against a lecture you know well. Hospital education teams with the same need will find the per quiz pricing laid out for an employer on the quiz maker for business page.
