LearnPress itself is free on WordPress.org. The paid side is sold by ThimPress in three ways: the Pro Bundle at $299 for one site with every premium add-on, the Semi-Pro Bundle at $149 with five add-ons, or single add-ons from $19 each. All of them are lifetime licenses for one site with 12 months of updates, and updates after that are a separate renewal. For quizzes specifically, a working site usually costs far less than the Pro Bundle, because the two quiz add-ons together are $48 and no bundle includes a spreadsheet importer anyway.

Those figures come from the ThimPress product pages. They are worth reading carefully, because the review sites ranking for this search disagree with each other: one quotes the Pro Bundle at $249.99 against a $499 list price, another says $299 a year for three domains. The product page says $299, one site, against a regular price of $710.

Pro Bundle$299 (regular $710)1Every premium add-on, including Sorting Choice, Random Quiz, Exam, Gradebook, Assignments, H5P and all payment gateways

One detail changes how you should read every row: these are not annual subscriptions in the usual sense. ThimPress sells a lifetime license for one site and bundles 12 months of updates and support with it. The plugin keeps working after the year ends. What stops is updates, and on a WordPress site that runs payments, running without updates is not really an option for long.

Is LearnPress free?

Yes, and more usefully than most free LMS plugins. The core on WordPress.org gives you unlimited courses and students, a drag and drop curriculum builder, and a quiz builder with four automatically graded question types: true or false, single choice, multi choice and fill in blanks. It also ships LearnPress AI, which drafts course outlines, lessons and quizzes from a topic you describe once you connect your own OpenAI API key. OpenAI bills that usage, not ThimPress.

What free does not give you is a way to sell courses beyond basic checkout, certificates, a gradebook, assignments, drag to order questions or randomized quizzes. Those are the add-ons, and they are where the pricing page starts to matter.

How much is the LearnPress Pro Bundle?

$299 for one site, with 12 months of updates and support. After the first year, ThimPress sells update extensions at $209 for one more year, $389 for two or $538 for three. So a site you keep current for three years costs $299 up front plus $389, or $688 in total, and the renewal is the larger part of that bill.

The license is limited to one active installation. You can move the key between a staging site and production by deactivating and reactivating it, but only one install receives updates at a time. Agencies building several client sites should price one bundle per site, not one per agency.

What the money buys is breadth. The Pro Bundle lists more than 30 premium add-ons: commerce through WooCommerce, Stripe and a long list of regional gateways, memberships, certificates, content drip, co-instructors, a frontend editor, and the full quiz and assessment set of Sorting Choice, Random Quiz, Exam, Gradebook, Assignments and H5P.

Which covers quizzes, LearnPress Semi-Pro or Pro?

Only Pro. The Semi-Pro Bundle at $149 is built for selling and certifying: WooCommerce, Stripe, Certificates, Gradebook and Assignments. It contains neither of the two add-ons that change what a quiz can do. If you buy Semi-Pro expecting drag to order questions or a randomized draw from your question bank, you will be buying those separately afterward.

Quiz featureFree coreSemi-Pro, $149Pro, $299Bought alone

Random Quiz (draw from a question bank)NoNoYes$29

The last row is the one most buyers miss. Neither bundle includes a spreadsheet importer. The free LearnPress Backup and Migration Tool moves courses and quizzes between sites as XML, which is useful for migrations and useless for a question bank somebody wrote in Excel.

What does a quiz ready LearnPress site actually cost?

Less than the Pro Bundle, if quizzes are the reason you are upgrading. Here is the stack for a single course site that wants randomized quizzes and a bulk loaded question bank.

Line itemCostWhy you need it
LearnPress core$0The LMS and the four graded question types
Random Quiz add-on$29A fresh draw of questions per attempt, so shared answers stop working
Sorting Choice add-on$19Only if you teach sequences or procedures
Spreadsheet quiz importer$11 to $75, one timeLoading fifty questions from a file instead of typing them
Hosting, backups, monitoringWhatever your host chargesIt is a self-hosted plugin, so the server is yours

That comes to roughly $59 to $123 before hosting, against $299 for the Pro Bundle. The bundle only wins once you also need commerce, certificates and grading, because those add-ons are where the bundle discount lives. The two importers worth knowing are from WP Plugins For You at $75, which reads Excel, CSV and Google Sheets with up to 10 options per question, and Mamflow, listed at $39 and on sale at $11 when we looked, which reads CSV, JSON and XLSX. We compared every import route, with the question types each one supports, on our LearnPress quiz importer page.

The hosting line deserves a sentence of its own. Once a LearnPress site takes payments, it is a store as well as a school, and an outage during a launch costs real sales. If you run it yourself, set up uptime monitoring that checks the site every 30 seconds before you send the first promotion email, not after the first angry one.

LearnPress pricing compared with other WordPress LMS plugins

PluginEntry paid priceBillingSpreadsheet quiz import
LearnPress$19 per add-on, $299 Pro BundleLifetime license, 12 months of updatesThird party only, two importers accept CSV
Tutor LMS Pro$199 a yearAnnual, or $499 lifetimeBuilt in CSV import on Pro
LearnDash$259 a yearAnnualXML only built in, XLSX through a paid add-on
LifterLMSCore free, bundles from $199 first yearAnnualThird party only, none accepts CSV

LearnPress is the cheapest way into a working WordPress quiz setup, by a wide margin, because it lets you buy exactly the two quiz add-ons you need instead of a tier. Tutor LMS is the only one of the four that imports a CSV without any third party plugin, which is worth $199 a year to some buyers and nothing to others. The full breakdowns are in Tutor LMS pricing and quiz import and LifterLMS vs LearnDash quiz import cost.

Is LearnPress Pro worth it?

Worth it if you sell courses and issue certificates. Not worth it if your only upgrade reason is quizzes. The Pro Bundle's $299 is good value against the $710 its add-ons would cost one by one, but most of that value sits in commerce and certification. A course owner who needs randomized quizzes and drag to order questions pays $48 for exactly that.

Whichever path you take, one cost stays outside every ThimPress price: the questions themselves. LearnPress AI drafts from a topic you type, which gives you general questions about the subject. If your course is a set of recorded lessons, the quiz should test what those recordings actually said.

Where the quiz questions come from

VidQuiz writes them from the lesson. Paste a public YouTube link to the recording, or the transcript of any other video, and it drafts multiple choice questions with the correct answer marked, a one line explanation for each, and a timestamp pointing back to the moment being tested. You review and edit every question on the page.

Then export a CSV. It has one row per question with the stem, four option columns that widen to ten when a question needs more, the correct answer and the explanation. That maps straight onto either LearnPress importer template, so you are copying finished columns into a sample file rather than writing fifty questions by hand. If the same material also runs in Canvas, Moodle or Google Forms, the same set exports as QTI, GIFT or a Google Forms CSV. Our course video to quiz page shows the whole flow for a multi module course.

Software prices move, and the importer prices above come from small vendors who run frequent sales. Check the vendor page before you budget from any figure here.
