Kajabi quiz builder for Kajabi quizzes written from your lesson videos

Kajabi gives every course a quiz builder with auto grading, a passing grade and module locks. It has no way to bring questions in from a file. Every question is typed with Add question, so the questions have to be written somewhere first.

The short answer

Kajabi has a quiz builder inside every course: you add a Quiz from Add content in a module, then add questions one at a time as multiple choice, checkboxes, short answer or file upload, mark the correct option and optionally add an explanation. Multiple choice and checkbox questions grade themselves, and a passing grade can lock the next module. What Kajabi does not have is a question import from a file. The only import copies a quiz from another Kajabi course. VidQuiz writes the questions for you from a lesson: paste a public YouTube link or the lesson transcript and get up to 30 questions with options, the correct answer, an explanation and a timestamp, ready to paste into the builder. Plans start at $49 a month, or $24 a month billed annually.

Kajabi sells itself as the platform where a creator does not need five other tools, and for quizzes that is mostly true. The course quiz builder is solid. It grades multiple choice and checkbox questions automatically, lets your team grade short answers and file uploads by hand, sets a passing percentage, emails results, tags contacts by the answer they pick and can stop a student from opening the next module until they pass.

The part it leaves to you is the questions. The Kajabi help article on course quizzes describes exactly one way to add a question, the Add question button, and exactly one kind of import, copying a quiz you already built in another Kajabi course. There is no spreadsheet template, no CSV upload and no question bank file. A 20 question module check is 20 rounds of typing a stem, adding four options, clicking the circle next to the right one and writing an explanation.

For a course built on video, the questions are already sitting in the recording. That is the gap this page is about: getting from a lesson you filmed to a finished Kajabi quiz without writing every item from a blank screen.

Route What it does Cost The limit that matters
Add question, by hand You type each stem, add each option, mark the right one and write the explanation Included in every Kajabi plan Time. A 20 question quiz with explanations is an evening of typing
Import from another course Copies a quiz you already built, from another course or the same one Included Only moves quizzes that already exist in Kajabi. It cannot read a file
Assessments A separate quiz and survey tool for website and landing pages, up to 100 questions Included Kajabi has sunset Assessments inside courses. Questions are still added one at a time
VidQuiz Writes the questions, options, correct answers and explanations from a YouTube link or a lesson transcript One-time free demo of 3 quizzes, then from $49 a month, or $24 a month billed annually Up to 30 questions per quiz. You still paste them into Kajabi, because Kajabi has no import

Kajabi routes from the Course quizzes and Compare Quizzes and Assessments articles in the Kajabi help center, read in October 2026. Kajabi plan prices are on the Kajabi pricing page: Basic $179, Growth $249 and Pro $499 a month, or $143, $199 and $399 a month billed annually.

Does Kajabi have quizzes?

Yes. Every Kajabi course can hold quizzes, added from Add content inside a module and built with four question types: multiple choice, checkboxes, short answer and file upload. Multiple choice and checkbox questions grade themselves, a passing grade can be set as a percentage, and a quiz can be required before the next module unlocks.

Kajabi also has a second tool with a similar name, Assessments, which lives under Contacts and goes on website and landing pages. It is the one people use for lead magnet quizzes and surveys. Kajabi has sunset Assessments inside courses, so for anything a student takes as part of a course, the course quiz is the tool.

Two limits are worth knowing before you plan a course around them. A quiz shows all of its questions on one page, and Kajabi says there is no option to show one question at a time. And you cannot drip or lock an individual quiz. The workaround Kajabi gives is to put the quiz alone in its own module and drip or lock the module.

How to create a quiz in Kajabi

From the Dashboard, open Products, then Courses, and open the course. Click Add content next to the module where the quiz belongs and choose Quiz. Then click Add question, type the question, pick the type, choose whether it is graded, add the options, click the circle next to the correct one, add an explanation if you want one and click Save. Repeat for every question.

Settings hold the rest. Under Grading, turn on Set a passing grade and enter the percentage. Two optional boxes sit under it: one emails the student a link to their results, the other stops them from marking the quiz complete until they pass. Under Notifications you can send a completion email to the student and one to your team. Set the status to Published when it is ready.

The slow step is the one in the middle, and it does not get faster with practice. Writing a good distractor takes as long on question 18 as it did on question 2. That is the step VidQuiz takes off your plate.

Can you import questions into a Kajabi quiz?

Not from a file. The only import Kajabi documents for course quizzes is Import from another course, which copies an existing Kajabi quiz into a module of the same or a different course. There is no CSV, spreadsheet or question bank upload, so questions written anywhere outside Kajabi go in through Add question.

That changes what a good outside tool has to do. With a platform that imports CSV, any spreadsheet will do. With Kajabi, the tool has to hand you each question already finished and in the order the builder asks for it, because you will be pasting field by field. A rough draft that still needs a rewrite saves you very little.

Once a quiz exists in Kajabi, the import does help: build the quiz once in a template course and import it into every cohort or bundle that needs it, instead of rebuilding it.

Kajabi quiz vs assessment for a paid course

Use a quiz. Kajabi describes quizzes as the tool for testing what students learned inside a course and Assessments as a marketing tool for your website and landing pages. Quizzes also add manual grading for short answer and file upload questions and written feedback on results, which Assessments do not offer.

Assessments still earn their place before the sale. A short knowledge check on a landing page that tags each visitor by answer, then routes them to the right offer, is what they are built for, and each one holds up to 100 questions. Kajabi caps tags at 100 per site, so plan answer tags carefully if you use both tools.

Questions written for one work for the other. If you draft a set from your free lesson video for a landing page assessment, the same items can become the first module check of the paid course.

Can Kajabi grade quizzes automatically?

Yes, for multiple choice and checkbox questions. Mark the correct option when you add the question and Kajabi scores it on submission. Short answer and file upload questions have to be graded by your team from the Results page, where you mark each answer correct or incorrect, leave feedback and click Publish grade.

Only graded questions count toward the score, and the passing grade applies whether a quiz is graded automatically or by hand. If you want a quiz that only checks completion, turn off Set a passing grade and mark every question as non-graded.

For a course with many students, the practical rule is simple: keep the quizzes that gate modules to multiple choice and checkboxes so nobody waits on a human to unlock the next lesson, and save short answers for a final project or coaching tier.

How do I turn a lesson video into a Kajabi quiz?

Paste the public YouTube link of the lesson into VidQuiz, or paste its transcript if the video is hosted in Kajabi, Vimeo or anywhere else. Choose how many questions you want, up to 30, and review what comes back. Every item has the question, the options, the correct answer, an explanation and the timestamp in the video it came from, so checking it against the lesson takes minutes.

Then open the quiz in Kajabi and work down the list. Paste the question, choose Multiple choice, paste the options, click the circle next to the answer VidQuiz marked correct, click Add explanation and paste the explanation. Short answer items go in as Short answer with the model answer kept for whoever grades.

Keep the VidQuiz set after you are done. It is your copy of the quiz outside Kajabi, and it exports as a PDF with the answer key for a workbook, or as a Google Forms or QTI file if you ever teach the same material somewhere else.

Can a Kajabi quiz lock the next module?

Yes. Set a passing grade on the quiz, tick Prevent member from marking quiz as complete without a passing grade, and lock the next module until the quiz is completed. A student who has not passed cannot open the locked content. That is how creators gate a certificate or a bonus module behind a final exam.

A gate is only as fair as its questions. A locked module behind a quiz with one ambiguous item produces support tickets, so the explanation field matters more here than anywhere else. When a student fails, the explanation is what tells them why without an email to you.

Shaped for the Kajabi builder

Each item arrives in the order Kajabi asks for it: the question, then the options, then which one is correct, then the explanation for the Add explanation field. You paste, you do not rewrite.

Kajabi exports quiz results to CSV, not the questions. Keep every question set as a PDF with the answer key, a CSV, QTI 1.2, GIFT or a Google Forms file, so the material survives a platform move.

Good questions

Questions about kajabi quiz

No. Kajabi has no quiz upload template because course quizzes cannot import questions from a file. You can import a quiz you already built in another Kajabi course. To fill a new quiz faster, draft the questions outside Kajabi and paste them in with Add question.
The course quizzes help article does not state a cap. Assessments, the separate website tool, hold up to 100 questions each. A VidQuiz set holds up to 30 questions, which suits a module check, and a longer final can be built from more than one lesson.
By default the results page shows them, along with any explanation you added. Turn on Hide answers on results page and a student who picked a wrong option will not see the correct one. Students can retake a quiz at any time and see results only for their latest attempt.
Kajabi exports quiz results to a CSV that arrives by email, not the questions themselves. Keeping the question set in VidQuiz gives you a copy you can export as a PDF with the answer key, a CSV, QTI 1.2, GIFT or a Google Forms file.
Quizzes are part of the course builder, and the Kajabi help article on course quizzes names no plan requirement. Kajabi plans are Basic at $179, Growth at $249 and Pro at $499 a month, or $143, $199 and $399 a month billed annually, on the pricing page in October 2026.
