A Kaltura quiz generator writes the questions for you instead of leaving you to type every item into the Kaltura quiz editor. Kaltura already handles the interactive part: you add questions at points on the timeline, the video pauses for the viewer, and the supported types are multiple choice, true/false, open-ended questions, and reflection points. What Kaltura will not do is write the questions. Upload the recording to VidQuiz or paste a link, and you get multiple choice questions with the correct answer marked, a one line explanation, and a timestamp showing where each one belongs on the timeline. Two things to know before you build: only the auto-scored types reach a gradebook, and Kaltura grade passback depends on a browser session that expires after about four hours, so a student who leaves a quiz open overnight can lose the sync.
Kaltura is a good home for a video quiz and a slow place to author one. Whether you are in MediaSpace, a Content Hub, or the Kaltura tool inside Canvas, the editor gives you a timeline you can drop questions onto and a player that pauses so the viewer has to answer. Then it hands you an empty question box. Watch the lecture back, decide what is worth testing, write the stem, invent three wrong answers that are not obviously wrong, mark the key, repeat. A fifty minute recorded lecture usually wants eight to twelve questions, and across a term of recordings that is days of work nobody scheduled.

Kaltura is genuinely good at the interactive layer: questions that pause the video, per question response reports, and CSV exports of every attempt. The gap this fills is the authoring, which is the step that makes most recordings never get a quiz at all.
How do you create a Kaltura video quiz?
You create one from the media you already own. Open the entry in My Media or your Content Hub, launch the quiz editor, and move to the point on the timeline where the question belongs. Type the stem, add the options, mark the correct answer, and save. A single video can carry several questions placed at different moments, and playback pauses at each one so the viewer has to answer before continuing. You also choose whether viewers can skip questions, retake them, or see feedback afterward.
The mechanics take ten minutes to learn. The cost is everything inside that question box. Drafting the items from the recording first turns the Kaltura step into paste, place, save, and it moves your judgment to where it belongs: deciding whether a question is fair and on level, rather than inventing distractors at the end of a long day.
How do Kaltura quizzes work in Canvas?
A quiz assigned through an LMS such as Canvas syncs its grade to the gradebook once the student submits. That works, with one failure mode worth planning around. Kaltura holds the quiz in a browser session that expires by default after four hours, and for videos over two hours the window is roughly twice the video length. If a student opens the quiz, walks away, and comes back the next day, the session can expire and the grade may never reach the gradebook. Switching browsers or devices mid quiz causes the same problem.
The practical fix is to tell students to finish in one sitting, and to check the gradebook for missing or errored entries after a deadline. If the score has to count and you would rather not manage a session window at all, export the questions as a QTI package instead. It imports as a native Canvas quiz, so Canvas owns the attempt, the timing, and the grade, and there is nothing to expire.
Where do you find Kaltura quiz results?
In the entry analytics for the video. Open My Media, click the three dots next to the media, and choose Analytics. The Quiz Questions tab breaks down how people answered each question and lets you export or print the answers for a single question, which is the view you want when you are checking whether a question was badly worded. The Quiz Users tab lists each user with their attempt number and final score, and it follows whatever scoring rule the quiz was set to, whether that is highest, latest, first, lowest, or average attempt. There are CSV exports for all attempts or last attempt only.
Two limits catch people. The list loads up to 500 entries at a time behind a Show More button, so a large cohort takes several clicks to pull. And every viewer who is not logged in is rolled into one single anonymous user, which means an openly shared video gives you almost nothing at the individual level. For anything you need to grade, the video has to be assigned through the LMS, or the quiz needs to live in the LMS as a real quiz.
Can you generate Kaltura quiz questions automatically?
Kaltura will not write them, but you can generate them from the same recording and bring them across. Grab a link to the recording or download the file, drop it into VidQuiz, and you get a full multiple choice set drawn from what was actually said. Each question comes with the correct answer marked, a one line explanation, and a timestamp, and the timestamp is what makes the handoff clean: it tells you which point on the Kaltura timeline that question belongs to, so you are not scrubbing to find the moment again.
Review before it counts. The questions come from your own recording and they are a strong first draft, not a guarantee, so read them once and fix anything that misreads a point you made. What goes away is the typing, and that is the part that decides whether a quiz gets built at all.
