LearnWorlds quiz import from a lesson video to the XLS template
LearnWorlds assessments take questions from an XLS template with a fixed set of columns. VidQuiz writes the questions, options, correct answers and explanations from a lesson video, so the template is filled in minutes instead of typed from scratch.
What you are looking at
Three quizzes VidQuiz generated from three real YouTube videos. They are saved output, not generated in your browser. Pick one to answer it, and open the source video to check the questions against what is actually said in it.
For your own video, the live demo on the home page runs the real generator once, free, with no account.
This box only holds saved quizzes.
It has not sent your link anywhere. The live demo on the home page does run it: one real generation, free, no account and no card, on the same engine paying customers use.
What VidQuiz reads: paste a YouTube link and VidQuiz watches the video itself. For any other source (Vimeo, an MP4, a screen recording, an upload) paste that video’s transcript and VidQuiz writes the questions from it.

The short answer
LearnWorlds imports questions into an Assessment from an Excel file: in the assessment click Add question, then Import Questions, choose From XLS, download the template and fill its third tab, named Questions. The columns are Group, Type, Question, CorAns, Answers 1 to 10, CorrectExplanation and IncorrectExplanation, and the tab and column names must not be changed. VidQuiz writes the content for those columns from your lesson: paste a public YouTube link or a transcript and get up to 30 multiple choice questions with four options, the correct answer, an explanation and a timestamp. You copy them into the template columns, then import. Plans start at $49 a month, or $24 a month billed annually.
LearnWorlds is one of the few course platforms that lets you load a whole assessment from a spreadsheet, and its template is strict. Every question needs a group name in letters, a type code such as TMC for multiple choice, the correct answer given as the position of the option rather than its text, and the answers each in their own column. One renamed tab or column and the import fails.
The template solves the typing of the structure. It does not solve the writing. Someone still has to turn an hour of lesson video into twenty good questions with believable wrong answers, and that is the part that takes the evening.
VidQuiz handles that part. It reads the lesson, drafts the questions with the right answer and an explanation for each, and gives you a set that maps column for column onto the LearnWorlds template.

| Route | What it does | Cost | The limit that matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Add question, by hand | You type each stem and every option in the assessment editor | Included | Time. A 20 question quiz with feedback is an evening of typing |
| Import from XLS | Loads many questions at once from the LearnWorlds template into a question bank or an assessment | Included, listed for the Starter, Pro Trainer, Learning Center and High Volume and Corporate plans | Exact tab and column names, group names in letters, plain text only. It moves content you already wrote, it does not write it |
| Import from the question bank or another assessment | Reuses questions you already stored in your school | Included | Only questions that already exist in LearnWorlds |
| VidQuiz | Writes the questions, options, correct answers and explanations from a YouTube link or a lesson transcript | One-time free demo of 3 quizzes, then from $49 a month, or $24 a month billed annually | Up to 30 questions per quiz. You copy the columns into the LearnWorlds template, the VidQuiz CSV is not in that layout |
LearnWorlds routes and template rules from the LearnWorlds help center article on importing questions to an assessment from an XLS file, read in October 2026.
How do I import questions into a LearnWorlds quiz?
Open the Assessment learning activity, click Add question, then Import Questions, and pick the third option, From XLS. Download the template and unzip it. The first tab holds the instructions, the second shows examples, and the third, named Questions, is where your questions go. Do not rename that tab or any column name, or the import fails. Save the file, upload it and click Import.
The same template can load questions into a question bank instead of one assessment, which is the better route if several quizzes draw from the same pool.
Only assessment type questions can come in through the file. Use plain text in every cell, with no formatting.
What question types can LearnWorlds import from a spreadsheet?
The template lists seven types: Multiple Choice (TMC), Multiple Choice with Multiple Answers (TMCMA), True or False (TTF), Dropdown (TD), Short Text (TST), Text Assignment (TP) and File Assignment (TFU). The last two are graded by hand, so their CorAns cell stays empty.
For a video lesson, multiple choice does most of the work. It grades itself, it is quick for the student and it suits a gate before the next section. Keep short text for a final check where a typed answer proves more.
How do I turn a lesson video into a LearnWorlds assessment?
Paste the public YouTube link of the lesson into VidQuiz, or paste its transcript if the video is hosted in LearnWorlds, Vimeo or anywhere else. Choose how many questions you want, up to 30, and review what comes back. Every item has the question, the options, the correct answer, an explanation and the timestamp it came from, so checking it against the lesson takes minutes.
Then fill the Questions tab. Give each question a group name in letters, put TMC in Type, paste the question, put the number of the correct option in CorAns, paste the options into Answers 1 to 4 and the explanation into CorrectExplanation. Upload the file and click Import.
The CSV VidQuiz exports has its own column order, so it will not upload to LearnWorlds as it is. Copy the columns across once, and for later quizzes keep the same sheet as a working copy.
Why does my LearnWorlds XLS import fail?
The usual causes are in the LearnWorlds instructions: a renamed Questions tab, a changed column name, a Group written as a number instead of letters, or answers combined into one cell instead of one per column. LearnWorlds warns that a numeric group may upload but cannot be saved properly.
Also check CorAns. For multiple choice it is the position of the right answer, not the answer text, and for multiple answers the positions are separated by commas. Short text questions leave CorAns blank and put the accepted answers in the Answers columns.
Is it worth drafting LearnWorlds questions with AI?
It is worth it when the material already exists as video. A tool that reads the lesson produces questions that match what you actually taught, with distractors drawn from the same content, so a student who watched the lesson can pass and one who skipped it cannot.
LearnWorlds also includes its own AI assessment builder on every plan, which suits drafting from a topic. VidQuiz suits the case where the source is a recording, because every question carries the timestamp it came from. Read every question before you import. A drafted set is a first pass by a fast assistant, and you know your course. Most creators change two or three items in twenty, usually to soften a distractor or sharpen a stem, which is a few minutes against an evening.

LearnWorlds template columns, and what fills each one

| Template column | What LearnWorlds expects | Where it comes from in a VidQuiz set |
|---|---|---|
| Group | A group name in letters for every question, such as Module One. Numbers alone do not save properly | You choose it, for example one group per lesson |
| Type | A code. TMC multiple choice, TMCMA multiple answers, TTF true or false, TD dropdown, TST short text | TMC for our multiple choice, TTF for true or false, TST for short answer |
| Question | The question text | The question, as written |
| CorAns | The number of the correct option in the Answers columns. For true or false, 1 is True and 2 is False | The position of the option VidQuiz marked correct, A is 1, B is 2 |
| Answers 1 to 10 | Each option in its own column, up to ten | Option A to D, one per column |
| CorrectExplanation and IncorrectExplanation | Optional feedback shown after the student answers | The explanation written for each question |

Why VidQuiz
What you get with learnworlds quiz
Questions written from the lesson
Paste the public YouTube link of a lesson, or the transcript of a video you host in LearnWorlds, and get the question, four options, the correct answer, a one line explanation and the moment it came from. Up to 30 questions per quiz.
Maps onto the LearnWorlds template
Each item carries what the template asks for: the question text, the answer options, which option is correct and an explanation for the CorrectExplanation column. You copy columns across, you do not rewrite.
A copy outside your school
Keep every question set as a PDF with the answer key, a CSV, QTI 1.2, GIFT or a Google Forms file, so the material survives a platform change.
