MasterStudy LMS is free on WordPress.org, and the paid version, MasterStudy LMS Pro Plus, costs $99 a year for one site, $199 a year for 10 sites or $399 a year for unlimited sites. Lifetime licenses are $249, $499 and $999. Every paid plan includes all the Pro add-ons, AI Lab among them, and comes with a 14 day money back period. For quizzes specifically, the free plugin already has all eight question types, so most course owners pay for Pro Plus for AI Lab, the gradebook or selling features, not for the quiz builder.

Those are the checkout prices from the Stylemix pricing feed, the data its own pricing page loads. They are worth stating plainly, because the pages ranking for this search disagree: some quote $99, $199 and $399, others quote $149, $299 and $599. Both are real. The higher numbers are list prices the pricing page renders first, and the lower ones are what the checkout charges once the discount loads.

Annual plans include a year of updates and priority ticket support. Lifetime plans include lifetime updates. The plugin keeps working if an annual license lapses, but on a site that takes payments, running without updates is not something to plan around, so treat the annual figure as a yearly cost.

Is MasterStudy LMS free?

Yes, and it is one of the more complete free LMS plugins. The WordPress.org version, with more than 10,000 active installs, gives you unlimited courses and lessons, a drag and drop course builder, and a quiz builder with eight automatically graded question types: single choice, multi choice, true or false, item match, image match, image choice, keywords and fill in the gap. Quizzes can draw from a question bank, so each attempt pulls a different set.

That makes the free plugin a real assessment tool, not a demo. A course owner who only needs to publish lessons and run graded quizzes can stay on it indefinitely. The upgrade question starts when you want to sell, certify or automate.

What does Pro Plus add over MasterStudy LMS free?

Pro Plus is sold as one plan with every add-on included, so the choice is about the add-ons, not about tiers. The ones that matter most for quizzes and assessment are these.

FeatureFreePro Plus

AI Lab (drafts courses, lessons and quizzes from a prompt)NoYes, usage billed by your AI provider

The last row is the one buyers miss. Pro Plus does not import questions from a spreadsheet. The route most course owners use is the MasterStudy LMS Quiz Importer from WP Plugins For You, $65 a year for one site, which reads a CSV or a linked Google Sheet with a template for single choice, multi choice, item match and fill the gap questions. We compared every import route, with which of the eight types each one can reach, on our MasterStudy LMS quiz importer page.

How much does MasterStudy LMS Pro cost per year?

$99 for one site, $199 for 10 sites and $399 for unlimited sites, billed yearly. Over three years that is $297 for one site, against $249 once for the lifetime license. So the lifetime license pays for itself in the third year, which is the useful break even to know if the site is a long term business rather than an experiment.

The 10 site plan is priced for agencies and for course owners who run a staging copy plus a few niche sites. At $19.90 a site per year it is the cheapest per site cost in the range, but only if you actually use most of the ten.

What does a quiz ready MasterStudy site actually cost?

Less than you would guess, because the quiz builder itself is free. The real bill depends on where your questions come from.

Line itemCostWhy you might need it
MasterStudy LMS$0Courses, lessons, quizzes, all eight question types, question bank
MasterStudy LMS Quiz Importer$65 a yearLoading questions from a CSV or Google Sheet instead of typing each one
Pro Plus, single site$99 a year, optionalAI Lab, media in questions, gradebook, selling and certificates
Hosting and domainVariesEvery self hosted WordPress LMS needs it

So a site that sells nothing and only needs bulk loaded quizzes runs about $65 a year on top of hosting. A site that sells courses with certificates runs about $164 a year, or $99 a year if you type questions in by hand. Hosting is the line people underestimate: once a course site takes payments, its sales page is a store front, and if launches are not converting the fix is usually on that page rather than in the LMS. A tool that can audit the copy, layout and calls to action of a sales page is often worth more than the next plugin upgrade.

Does MasterStudy AI Lab write quiz questions for you?

Yes, from a prompt. AI Lab, included in every Pro Plus plan, asks you to describe the topic, the audience level, the key concepts and any focus areas, then generates the number of questions you ask for, in the language and question types you pick. It connects to one of five providers, OpenAI, Grok, Gemini, Mistral or Claude, and that provider bills the usage on top of the license.

What it does not do is read your lesson. The Stylemix documentation says AI Lab can not generate audio, video, Google Meet, Stream or Zoom lessons, and quiz generation works from what you type into the prompt. For a course built on recorded video, that means the questions test the subject in general rather than what the lecture actually said, and you still check each one against the recording.

MasterStudy LMS pricing compared with other WordPress LMS plugins

PluginEntry paid priceBillingSpreadsheet question import
MasterStudy LMS Pro Plus$99Yearly, or $249 lifetimeThird party, $65 a year
LearnPress Pro Bundle$299Lifetime license, 12 months of updatesThird party, $11 to $75
Tutor LMS Pro$199YearlyBuilt in, CSV
LearnDash$259YearlyThird party add-on

Figures for the other three are the ones we last read from each vendor in September 2026; check the vendor page before buying. On the entry price MasterStudy is the cheapest paid WordPress LMS in this group, and its free plugin already includes all eight of its question types. Tutor LMS is the only one that imports a CSV of questions without a third party plugin. The full breakdowns are in LearnPress pricing and Tutor LMS pricing and quiz import.

Is MasterStudy LMS Pro worth it?

It is worth it when the site sells courses. Subscriptions, memberships, coupons, certificates and a gradebook are the features that turn a course library into a business, and at $99 a year for one site they come in one license instead of being bought one plugin at a time. If you would otherwise buy two or three separate plugins to sell and certify, Pro Plus is the cheaper path.

It is not worth it for quizzes alone. The free plugin already has the full set of question types and the question bank, and Pro Plus does not add spreadsheet import. A course owner whose only pain is loading questions should spend $65 on the importer and stay on the free plugin.

Where the quiz questions come from

Neither Pro Plus nor any importer writes questions from a recorded lesson. The importer moves text you already have, and AI Lab drafts from a description you type. For a video course, the most time consuming part of building a quiz is still reading back through the lecture and turning it into fair questions with one right answer each.

That is the step VidQuiz handles. Paste the public YouTube link of the lesson, or the transcript of a recording held anywhere else, and it drafts multiple choice questions with the correct answer marked, a one line explanation for each and a timestamp pointing at the moment each question tests. You edit the set on the page, then export a CSV with the stem, four option columns that widen to ten when a question needs more, the correct answer and the explanation.

That CSV maps onto the importer single choice template column by column, so loading a fifty question exam becomes a copy and an upload rather than an evening of typing. If the same course also runs in Canvas, Moodle or Google Forms, the set exports as QTI, GIFT or a Google Forms CSV. Our course video to quiz page shows the flow for a multi module course, and you can try it on one lesson with the free demo above.
