MasterStudy LMS quiz importer for CSV import and every question type
MasterStudy LMS has no spreadsheet import in the free plugin or in Pro Plus. One $65 a year add-on reads a CSV for four question types. None of the routes writes the questions from the lesson you recorded.
What you are looking at
Three quizzes VidQuiz generated from three real YouTube videos. They are saved output, not generated in your browser. Pick one to answer it, and open the source video to check the questions against what is actually said in it.
For your own video, the live demo on the home page runs the real generator once, free, with no account.
This box only holds saved quizzes.
It has not sent your link anywhere. The live demo on the home page does run it: one real generation, free, no account and no card, on the same engine paying customers use.
What VidQuiz reads: paste a YouTube link and VidQuiz watches the video itself. For any other source (Vimeo, an MP4, a screen recording, an upload) paste that video’s transcript and VidQuiz writes the questions from it.

The short answer
MasterStudy LMS has no CSV or Excel import for quiz questions, in the free plugin or in Pro Plus. The route most course owners use is the third party MasterStudy LMS Quiz Importer from WP Plugins For You, $65 a year for one site, which reads a CSV or a Google Sheet with a separate template for single choice, multi choice, item match and fill the gap questions. True or false, keywords and the two image types have no import template. VidQuiz writes the questions that file needs: paste a public YouTube link or a transcript and export a CSV with the stem, the options, the marked answer and an explanation for every item.
MasterStudy LMS is a generous free plugin. The WordPress.org version has more than 10,000 active installs and gives you eight question types, a question bank and automatic grading without paying Stylemix anything. That generosity stops at one point: getting questions in. Every question is typed into the quiz builder one field at a time, and a fifty item final exam is an evening of copying.
So you go looking for an import button. The free plugin does not have one for questions, and neither does Pro Plus. A Stylemix reply on the WordPress.org support forum points to the WordPress Tools screens for moving default quizzes between sites, which helps when the quiz already lives in MasterStudy and does nothing when your questions sit in a spreadsheet, a Word file or a lecture recording.
Spreadsheet import is sold by third parties, and on MasterStudy the choice is short: a $65 a year importer built for the plugin, or a $299 general CSV suite that lists MasterStudy among many integrations. Both assume the questions already exist as text.
Everything below was read from the Stylemix pricing feed and documentation, the WordPress.org plugin page and the product pages of each importer. It covers what each route accepts, what it costs, which of the eight question types can be imported at all, and the step none of them does: writing the questions.

| Route | What it accepts | Cost on top of free MasterStudy | What it is actually for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quiz builder, by hand | Nothing. You type every stem, option and key | $0, all eight question types are in the free plugin | A handful of questions written inside WordPress |
| WordPress Tools, Import and Export | Content already exported from a MasterStudy site | $0 | Moving quizzes that already exist between two WordPress installs |
| AI Lab (Pro Plus add-on) | A prompt you type: topic, audience level, key concepts | Pro Plus from $99 a year, plus usage billed by your AI provider | Drafting questions about a subject from scratch |
| WP Plugins For You, MasterStudy LMS Quiz Importer | CSV and a linked Google Sheet, one template per question type | $65 a year for one site | Bulk loading single choice, multi choice, item match and fill the gap questions |
| Smackcoders, WP Ultimate CSV Importer Premium | CSV, with MasterStudy LMS listed as an integration | $299 once for unlimited sites (listed against $399) | Moving whole sites of WordPress data, LMS content included |
| VidQuiz | A public YouTube link, or the transcript of any other recording | Free demo of 3 quizzes, then plans from $49 a month | Writing the questions when the source is a video rather than a document |
Every figure read first party from the vendor pages and the Stylemix pricing feed. The column that matters is the second one: only the WP Plugins For You importer is built around MasterStudy question templates, and it covers four of the eight question types. Small vendor prices move often, so re-check before you buy.
Does MasterStudy LMS have a quiz import?
Not for questions you wrote somewhere else. The free plugin and Pro Plus both build quizzes in the quiz builder, one question at a time, and neither ships a CSV, Excel or Word reader for questions. When a user asked on the WordPress.org support forum how to bulk import questions from a doc or Excel file, the answer pointed to the WordPress Tools screens for exporting and importing default quizzes.
That route moves quizzes that already exist in MasterStudy from one site to another. It is useful when you rebuild a site or copy a course to a staging install. It has nothing to open when the questions sit in a spreadsheet, because nothing in it maps a row to a question and a column to an answer.
Knowing that before you build the file saves an evening. The spreadsheet route on MasterStudy is a paid add-on, covered below, and it reads its own templates rather than any CSV you happen to have.
How do I import quiz questions into MasterStudy LMS from CSV?
Install the MasterStudy LMS Quiz Importer from WP Plugins For You, which needs WordPress 5.6 or later and MasterStudy LMS 2.5 or later. Download the template for the question type you want from its settings page, since each of the four supported types has its own file. Fill the template, then upload the CSV or link a Google Sheet, and the importer can assign the quiz to a course and topic as it loads.
The template does the heavy lifting on structure and none of it on content. You still need a question, a set of options and a correct answer on every row. For a fifty question exam that is where the hours go, not in the upload.
If your questions come from a recorded lesson, generate them first. Our CSV puts the stem, one column per option and the correct answer on each row, so moving it into the single choice template is column copying: stem to the question column, options across, the correct option into the answer column.
What is the best MasterStudy LMS quiz importer plugin?
For a single course site, the WP Plugins For You MasterStudy LMS Quiz Importer. It is $65 a year for one site, it is built around MasterStudy question types, it reads CSV and, since an April 2026 update, a linked Google Sheet, and it assigns imported quizzes to courses and topics. It is the only importer we found with a template per MasterStudy question type.
WP Ultimate CSV Importer Premium from Smackcoders is the other option. It costs $299 once for unlimited sites and lists MasterStudy LMS among its integrations, next to users, enrollments and the rest of WordPress. It earns that price when you migrate whole sites or run an agency with many installs. For loading a question bank once a term, it is more tool than the job needs.
Neither one writes questions, and neither reads true or false, keywords or image questions from a template. Pick the importer for the upload and plan separately for the authoring.
What question types does MasterStudy LMS support?
Eight, all in the free plugin: single choice, multi choice, true or false, item match, image match, image choice, keywords and fill in the gap. They are graded automatically, so a free MasterStudy site can run a scored assessment without anyone marking it. Quizzes can also draw from a question bank, a group of questions on one topic with a set number pulled into each attempt.
Pro Plus adds media rather than new types. The Question Media add-on puts images, audio and video into questions, and Pro Plus also brings a gradebook, assignments, SCORM and an Online Testing add-on around the same eight types.
For bulk import the practical ceiling is four types: single choice, multi choice, item match and fill the gap. A question bank of single choice items is the cheapest thing to fill from a spreadsheet, and it is exactly what a random draw needs, because a bank should hold several times more questions than one quiz shows.
Can MasterStudy AI Lab generate quizzes from a video?
No. AI Lab is a Pro Plus add-on that generates courses, lessons, quizzes and assignments, and it works from a prompt: you describe the topic, the audience level, the key concepts and any special focus, then choose the number of questions, the answer limit, the language and the question types. The Stylemix documentation says it can not generate audio, video, Google Meet, Stream or Zoom lessons, and it does not read your lesson content by itself.
It connects to an AI provider you choose from five: OpenAI, Grok, Gemini, Mistral and Claude, with usage billed by that provider. It can draft all eight question types, which no importer can match. The limit is the input. A quiz drafted from a description of the topic tests the subject in general, not what your recorded lesson actually said.
That matters for video courses. If the lesson is a recording, the questions should come from the recording, with each one traceable to a moment in it. That is the step VidQuiz does.
How much does MasterStudy LMS Pro cost?
MasterStudy LMS Pro Plus is $99 a year for one site, $199 for 10 sites and $399 for unlimited sites, with lifetime licenses at $249, $499 and $999. Those are the checkout prices in the Stylemix pricing feed. The pricing page shows higher list prices of $149, $299 and $599 a year before the discount loads, which is why review sites quote both.
Every plan includes the Pro add-ons, AI Lab and Question Media among them, with a year of updates on annual plans and lifetime updates on lifetime ones, and a 14 day money back period. The free plugin stays free.
None of that includes a question importer. A quiz ready MasterStudy site is the free plugin plus a $65 a year importer, with Pro Plus only if you need AI Lab, media in questions, the gradebook or selling features. Our MasterStudy LMS pricing guide works through the free versus Pro Plus decision in detail.
How do I get MasterStudy quiz questions from a video lesson?
Paste the public YouTube link of the lesson into VidQuiz, or paste the transcript of a recording held anywhere else. It drafts multiple choice questions with the correct answer marked, writes a one line explanation for each and attaches a timestamp pointing back at the moment the question tests. You review and edit the set on the page before anything is exported.
Export the CSV and copy its columns into the importer single choice template: the question, the options and the correct option. Upload it and assign the quiz to the lesson. Short answer items become keywords questions in the builder, and true or false items go in as single choice with two options.
Or leave WordPress out of it: the same set exports as a Google Forms quiz, a QTI package for Canvas or Brightspace, or a printable PDF with the answer key. Every question is drafted from your own recording and every one is editable, so read the set once before it counts toward a grade.

| Question type | Import template in the $65 importer | What a generated question set fills |
|---|---|---|
| Single choice | Yes | The stem, the options and the one correct answer. This is the type a generated set maps onto with no rework |
| Multi choice | Yes | The stem and options import, but any second correct option has to be marked by hand |
| True or false | No template | Import it as a single choice question with the options True and False, or set it up in the builder |
| Item match | Yes | Nothing directly. Matching pairs are a different item, so they are written by hand |
| Fill the gap | Yes | Only after the stem is rewritten with the missing word taken out |
| Keywords | No template | A short answer question can become one, with the accepted keywords typed in the builder |
| Image match | No template | Nothing. The answer is an image, added in the builder |
| Image choice | No template | Nothing. The options are images, added in the builder |

Why VidQuiz
What you get with masterstudy lms quiz
The questions come from your lesson
Paste a public YouTube link, or the transcript of any other recording, and get the question text, the answer options, the marked correct answer, a one line explanation and a timestamp. AI Lab drafts from a prompt you type. This drafts from what the lesson actually said.
A CSV you copy, not a quiz you compose
One row per question: the stem, one column per option (four at minimum, up to ten), the correct answer and the explanation. Moving that into the importer single choice template is a few minutes of column copying.
Not locked to WordPress
The same set exports as PDF with an answer key, QTI 1.2, GIFT, a Google Forms CSV or a Blackboard upload file, so a course that later moves to Canvas or Moodle keeps its questions.
What you can do
Everything masterstudy lms quiz import gives you
Paste a YouTube link and VidQuiz reads the video itself; for anything else, upload it with its transcript. Either way it writes the questions and you edit anything before you share. You stay in control of the final quiz.
- Stock a MasterStudy quiz from a recorded lecture or webinar
- Fill a question bank large enough to draw random questions from
- Get a marked answer key instead of setting one by hand
