Can you make your own quiz on Kahoot?

You can, and there are two routes with very different time costs. Typing directly into the creator means filling a card per question: the stem, up to four answer options, the correct one, and a timer. That is fine for five questions and tedious for thirty. The spreadsheet route lets you write everything in a grid, which is faster to draft, far faster to review, and much easier to reuse next term or next quarter.

The grid also makes the quiz reviewable by someone else before it goes live. A subject matter expert who will not log into a quiz tool will happily read a spreadsheet and mark the two rows that are wrong. For corporate training and compliance content, where a wrong answer key becomes a real problem, that review step matters more than the minutes saved.

How do you turn a video into a Kahoot quiz?

Paste the video link or upload the file, let the questions generate, edit the ones you want to change, then export and import. In practice the whole path is four steps: generate the draft from the recording, trim any question over 95 characters and any answer over 60, add a time limit column, and convert the answer key from letters to numbers.

The trimming step is the one people underestimate. A question written from a recorded lecture tends to carry context, something like a twenty word setup before the actual ask. Kahoot is built for a question that fits on a projected screen and gets answered in twenty seconds, so the useful edit is usually to cut the setup and keep the ask. That makes for a better live quiz anyway.

The answer key conversion is mechanical but easy to get wrong. VidQuiz marks the correct answer with a letter, and Kahoot wants a number that refers to the answer column position. A becomes 1, B becomes 2, C becomes 3, D becomes 4. If a question genuinely has two right answers, Kahoot accepts both as a comma separated list such as 2,3.

What does not survive the import into Kahoot

Explanations and timestamps do not travel. Kahoot's template has no column for either, so the reasoning behind each answer and the moment in the video it came from stay in your VidQuiz copy. That is worth planning around rather than discovering afterward, because those two fields are usually the reason a generated quiz is defensible.

The practical approach is to treat the Kahoot version as the performance and the VidQuiz version as the record. Run the game in Kahoot for the room, and keep the PDF or CSV with the explanations and timestamps for the learner who asks why they were marked wrong, or for the auditor who asks what the training actually covered.

Question types are the other gap. Kahoot supports several formats in its creator, but the spreadsheet importer accepts quiz questions only. Polls, word clouds, puzzles, and the rest have to be added by hand afterward. Since VidQuiz generates multiple choice, that limitation costs nothing here, but it does mean you cannot round trip an existing mixed kahoot through a spreadsheet.

When Kahoot is the right home for the quiz, and when it is not

Kahoot is strong when people are in the room, or on the call, at the same time. The timer, the leaderboard, and the shared screen do real work for attention during a training day, a class, or a conference session. For that job the character limits are a feature: they force questions that can be read and answered in seconds.

It is weaker when you need a record. If the question is whether every employee completed the compliance module and passed it, you want scores landing in a gradebook or an LMS, tied to a person, and still retrievable in two years. Paste or upload, generate, edit, export.

Two honest limits. The input has to be video or audio, so a policy document or a slide deck is not a source VidQuiz reads. And the questions are a strong first draft generated from your own recording, not a guarantee of accuracy, so the editing pass before you import is a real step rather than a formality.
