LifterLMS has no CSV quiz import at any price. The importer built into the free core plugin reads only the JSON file LifterLMS itself exports, and all three paid add-ons that read a spreadsheet want XLS or XLSX. They cost $49 a year, $99 a year and $75 once, so the same job carries a two to one price spread depending which product page you land on first. Question types are a second bill: the free core gives you four auto graded types, and the other eight sit behind the Advanced Quizzes add-on at $299 a year. VidQuiz covers the step none of those routes touches. It writes the questions from your recorded lesson, marks the correct answer, adds a one line explanation and a timestamp, and exports the set as CSV, PDF, QTI or a Google Forms quiz.

LifterLMS is unusual among WordPress course plugins in that the core really is free forever, with unlimited courses, students and instructors. So the first surprise when you go looking for bulk question import is not a paywall. It is that the format everybody assumes will work does not exist here at all.

There is an importer in the free plugin, under LifterLMS then Import. It creates the courses, the lessons, the quizzes and the questions in one pass, which sounds like exactly what you wanted. Read what it accepts and the picture narrows: it reads files produced by the LifterLMS exporter, and the sample file it hands you is JSON. It is a migration tool for moving a course between LifterLMS sites, not a way to load a question bank somebody wrote in Excel.

For a spreadsheet you buy a third party plugin, and there are three of them competing for the same job. WooNinjas sells one at $99 a year, WPinnovators sells one at $49, and WP Plugins For You sells one outright at $75. Between them they read XLS, XLSX, JSON and DOCX. Not one of them reads CSV. That is the single fact worth carrying away from this page, because a CSV is what almost every other tool in this category hands you, including ours, and turning one into an XLSX is a Save As rather than a problem.

Then there is the question of what you are allowed to import. The free core has four question types. The other eight arrive with the Advanced Quizzes add-on, which is $299 a year on its own, and that is a larger number than the plugin licence you were about to buy to do the importing.

Every figure read first party on 5 September 2026. The line that matters most is the one running down the second column: not one route into LifterLMS accepts a CSV file. The free importer wants LifterLMS JSON and every paid importer wants XLS or XLSX, so a CSV has to be opened and saved as a workbook before any of them will look at it. Licence prices also step up by site count, WooNinjas at $99, $129 and $199 a year for one, three and unlimited sites, WPinnovators at $49, $69 and $139. Re-check both before you buy.

Does LifterLMS have a quiz import?

Yes, but it is a course migration tool wearing an import label. The free core plugin has an importer under LifterLMS then Import, and the documentation is specific about what it does: new quizzes are created and attached to the lessons, valid quiz settings are applied, and new questions are created and attached to the quizzes. So quizzes and questions genuinely come across.

The catch is the input. It reads files generated by the LifterLMS exporter, and the sample file it publishes for you to inspect is JSON. There is nothing in the core plugin that reads a spreadsheet, a CSV or a Word document. If the questions were written anywhere other than another LifterLMS site, this route has no way to see them.

That is a reasonable design decision by LifterLMS and a common source of wasted evenings. People install the free plugin, find an Import screen, assume the format question is solved, and only discover the JSON requirement once they have already built the spreadsheet. Establish the format before you build the file, not after.

Can I import LifterLMS quiz questions from a CSV?

No, and this is the fact that separates LifterLMS from its neighbours. The built in importer wants LifterLMS JSON. The WooNinjas add-on documents .xls and .xlsx for import, plus .json and .docx. WPinnovators documents .xls and .xlsx. WP Plugins For You describes Excel and Google Sheets. CSV appears in none of the three specifications.

It is a mild inconvenience rather than a wall, because converting is a Save As. Open the CSV in Excel, LibreOffice or Google Sheets, save or download it as .xlsx, then paste the columns into the importer template. One extra step, thirty seconds, and it only matters that you know about it in advance.

It does change how you choose an upstream tool, though. Anything that only emits CSV, and most question generators only emit CSV, needs that conversion step planned in. Any process you were thinking of automating end to end will need something in the middle that can write a workbook.

How much does the LifterLMS quiz import export add-on cost?

Three products answer to roughly that name, and the price spread between them is larger than most buyers expect. WooNinjas sells the LifterLMS Quiz Import/Export Add-on at $99 a year for one site, $129 for three and $199 for unlimited, with lifetime licences at $229, $299 and $449. WPinnovators sells Quiz Import Export for LifterLMS at $49 a year for one site, $69 for three and $139 for unlimited, with lifetime licences at $129, $219 and $399. WP Plugins For You sells Import Quiz from Excel to LifterLMS as a $75 one time payment for a single domain.

So the cheapest annual entry is $49 and the best known is $99, for a job the two describe almost identically. What the extra buys, on the WooNinjas side, is DOCX import, JSON import and a scheduled Google Sheets sync that runs on WordPress cron. If you are loading a spreadsheet once a term, that is $50 a year for features you will not open. If a subject matter expert maintains the question bank in a shared sheet and you want the quiz to follow it, the sync is the whole reason to pay more.

There is a detail worth noticing if you also run LearnDash. The same vendor sells the same add-on for LearnDash at $149 a year rather than $99, and $349 lifetime rather than $229. The LearnDash edition carries extra features, including AI generation from uploaded documents, but the platform you happen to be on changes what the same shelf costs by fifty percent.

How many question types does LifterLMS have?

Four in the free core plugin, and eight more with the Advanced Quizzes add-on. The core four are multiple choice with a single correct answer, multiple choice with multiple correct answers, picture multiple choice and true or false. All four are graded automatically, which is why a free LifterLMS site can run a real assessment without anyone marking it.

Advanced Quizzes adds fill in the blank, reorder items, reorder pictures, short answer, long answer, upload, code and scale. Several of those are manually graded by design, so they change how much work lands on an instructor after the quiz runs rather than before it.

One inconsistency to be aware of. Four plus eight is twelve, but the Advanced Quizzes product page markets eleven question types. The published lists do not reconcile, and no LifterLMS page explains the difference. If your reason for buying is one particular type, confirm it inside the quiz builder while the thirty day money back guarantee still applies.

Is the LifterLMS Advanced Quizzes add-on worth it?

It depends entirely on whether you need a type the core four do not cover, because $299 a year is a serious line item next to a free core plugin. Put it beside the importer decision and the shape of the budget becomes clear: the plugin that loads your questions costs $49 to $99 a year, and the add-on that unlocks the other eight types costs three to six times that.

For most people building knowledge checks from course material, the honest answer is that the core four are enough. Multiple choice and true or false cover the vast majority of what a lesson quiz needs to ask, both grade themselves, and both import cleanly from a spreadsheet. The add-on earns its price when a certification genuinely requires written answers, uploaded work or ordered sequences.

One more consideration if you are pricing bundles. Advanced Quizzes is one of the fifteen advanced add-ons included in the Infinity Bundle, so anyone already heading for that tier is not paying separately for it. Anyone on the Earth or Universe bundle is, and at $299 the standalone add-on costs the same as the entire five site Universe Bundle.

Which LifterLMS bundle includes Advanced Quizzes?

The Infinity Bundle. LifterLMS publishes three paid bundles, all annual and all in US dollars, on top of a core plugin that stays free. Earth Bundle is $199 for the first year, covers one active site and supports one user. Universe Bundle is $299 for the first year, covers five active sites, supports two users and adds the Sky Pilot theme along with ecommerce, email marketing, CRM and forms add-ons. Infinity Bundle is $799 for the first year, covers unlimited sites, supports three users and adds fifteen advanced add-ons, Advanced Quizzes among them.

Read the renewal line carefully, because it is where the real cost sits. Those are first year prices at half the usual rate. LifterLMS states that renewals are charged at full price, which is $398, $598 and $1,598 respectively. A quiz heavy course library that goes to Infinity for Advanced Quizzes is a $799 decision this year and a $1,598 decision every year after.

Against that, buying Advanced Quizzes on its own at $299 a year is flat and predictable. Both options carry a thirty day money back guarantee, which is the window to actually test the question types you are buying for.

How do I get questions into LifterLMS when the source is a video?

This is the gap none of the routes above closes. Every import path, free or paid, assumes the questions already exist as text in a file. Something has to write fifty question stems, two hundred plausible answer options and mark the key on every one, and that is the part of the afternoon that no licence removes.

The add-on documentation states support for all the default question types in the free version plus the Advanced Quizzes types, with template fields for single choice, multiple choice, picture choice and true or false, along with formula, swipe and list data columns. The practical limit is not the importer but the content: reorder, upload and code questions have to be authored in a shape a question with four options is not.
