Is the Tutor LMS quiz import export addon free?

No. Tutor LMS core is free forever and there is a working quiz builder inside it, but the export and import addon lives under Tutor LMS Pro and the pricing page describes what ships free as the basic quiz builder.

Lifetime licenses are $499, $999 and $1,999, with the agency lifetime license covering up to fifty sites. Can I import a quiz from Excel into Tutor LMS?

Not with anything Themeum ships. The built in route is CSV only, and there is no XLSX, DOCX or Google Sheets importer in the core plugin or in Pro. Saving your workbook as CSV is not enough on its own either, because the file still has to match the row keyed layout the property reference sets out.

The route people actually use is a third party plugin. The WooNinjas Quiz Import Export add on reads XLS, XLSX, JSON and DOCX files and can sync from a Google Sheet on a schedule, and it lets you set quiz settings inside the file rather than clicking through them afterwards. That is a fair price if you genuinely have a large bank to load repeatedly. It is a lot if what you needed was ten questions at the end of a lesson, which is worth knowing before the second checkout page.

Is there a Tutor LMS quiz import template?

Yes, and this is the part almost every write up misses. The Quiz Export/Import documentation has a Download sample CSV button, and underneath it a property reference listing every column the importer reads. The quiz settings row carries the time limit and time type, hide quiz time, attempts allowed, passing grade, question display limit, shuffle questions, question layout, question order, the short answer character limit, the open ended character and word limits, and retry mode.

The question row carries row type, question title, an optional question description that accepts HTML, question type, marks, question order, required, randomize answers, show points and answer explanation. The answer row carries row type, answer title, answer type, is correct as 1 or 0, an image attachment ID, a match or correct value, and answer order. That is a complete schema, and it means a hand written file is a real option rather than guesswork.

A fill in the blank answer is marked with curly braces inside the sentence, as in WordPress is a {open} source platform. A matching pair goes in the sixth column of the answer row, which is not where anyone looks first. Image answering needs the answer type set to text_image and a real WordPress media library attachment ID, so those images have to be uploaded before the CSV runs.

Exporting a quiz you already built is still the fastest sanity check, because it shows you the exact header Tutor writes. But you are not blocked without one. Download the sample, fill it, and the importer reads it. What the sample cannot do is write the questions, which is the part that takes the afternoon.

How many question types does Tutor LMS have?

It depends which Tutor LMS page you are reading, and the disagreement wastes support tickets. The Quiz Builder documentation opens by saying the builder offers eight question types and names them: True/False, Multiple Choice, Open Ended/Essay, Fill in the Blanks, Short Answer, Matching, Image Answering and Ordering. The pricing page then lists five more under what a paid plan adds, calling them Draw Image, Pin Image, Graph, Puzzle and Scale.

For anyone loading questions from a file, only the first list matters. The CSV property reference names exactly eight type codes and they line up one to one with the eight builder types. None of the five interactive types appears in the code list, so there is no way to load a Draw Image or a Scale question from a spreadsheet no matter which importer you buy.

Inside that list of eight, a smaller number are realistic for generated content. Multiple Choice and True/False take it directly. Short Answer and Open Ended take the prompt but leave the marking to a human. Fill in the Blanks needs the stem rewritten with curly braces around the answer, and Matching, Ordering and Image Answering all need content authored in a shape a question and four options simply is not.

Does Tutor LMS have an AI quiz generator?

Yes, inside AI Studio in the Quiz Builder, and there is a cost detail in the documentation that most reviews skip. Generations run against your own OpenAI API balance, and token use scales with the number of questions, the types selected and the complexity of the topics. Ten questions across several topics costs more than five simple True/False items.

That means the AI question generator is not included in the price of the plan in the way people assume. You pay for Tutor LMS Pro, then you supply and top up an OpenAI key, then you monitor usage separately. For a small team this is often fine. For anyone budgeting a course library it is a second, variable line item.

The bigger limit is the source. AI Studio writes from course content you have already published in Tutor, and it offers four types: True/False, Multiple Choice, Short Answer and Open Ended/Essay.
